Background

AVEVA’s MDS (Multi Discipline Supports) application is a highly productive tool for the design of supports within the process and power industries. It is fully integrated with AVEVA’s 3D design system called PDMS.

Carpenter & Paterson and AVEVA have guaranteed the implementation of a new catalogue and an interface to the Witch Hanger Software.

The support points, including the necessary secondary steel, are planned and laid out directly in the PDMS 3D model by experienced designers. “Witch Hanger” supports are transposed into 3D data, are integrated into the model with the aid of a PDMS interface. Any secondary steel required can be directly supplemented in PDMS.

Work Flow

The following workflow can be used to integrate the C&P software into the MDS application

Support Creation:

  1. The user selects the fixed or variable support creation from MDS
Note: The interface is available from form where the user may create any type of support available in the Witch Hanger Software
  2. The user names the support
  3. The user selects the Witch Hanger icon located on the fixed or variable support creation forms
  4. The user is prompted to select the pipe and steelwork he requires to create the support between
  5. The user is then presented with a form, which contains all the information read from the selected pipe and steelwork i.e.: pipe bore, insulation, etc
  6. The user completes all the information that cannot be read from the pipe and selected steelwork i.e.: movements, loads
  7. When all the necessary information has been completed the user selects the ok button to activate the Witch Hanger software
  8. The user designs the support he requires to create in the Witch Hanger Software. All the information that is passed to the Witch Hanger software is designated as ready only and cannot be modified. IE: Pipe bore, temperature
  9. The user exits the Witch Hanger Software and the support is built by MDS in the PDMS model

Support Modification

  1. The user selects the modify support form in MDS
  2. The user identifies the support to modify in MDS
  3. The user selects the Apply button on the support modify form
  4. If the support was previously created with the Witch Hanger software the user will be presented with a form with all the information that was used to create the support initially
  5. The user may modify the setting previously used to create the support i.e.: movements, loads
  6. When all the necessary information has been completed or modified the user select the ok button to activate the Witch Hanger software
  7. The user designs the support he requires to create in the Witch Hanger software. All the information that is passed to the Witch Hanger software is designated as read only and cannot be modified. I.e.; pipe bore, temperature
  8. The user exits the Witch Hanger software and the support is built by MDS in the PDMS model

Drawing Production:

MDS supplies its own drawing production tool for use with supports generated with MDS. It will be possible to generate drawing of all hangers created with this new catalogue and interface. The descriptions used by material take off section of the drawing will have the ability to display C & P catalogue references
