The Carpenter & Paterson range of hydraulic shock arrestor has been developed to protect pipelines and equipment from the effect of shock loads generated by rapid valve closure and/or seismic shock conditions. When subjected to sudden movements which exceed specific velocity levels, the shock arrestor 'locks' momentarily and forms a rigid connection.

 

Our hydraulic shock arrestors are available in loads up to 6,000,000 N (600,000 kg) and travels up to 450 mm. The Shock Arrestor offered is of the Velocity Limiting type.

Special design shock arrestors are available for extreme loads.

At Carpenter & Paterson we decided to adopt the hydraulic system in that it was generally more reliable and certainly more versatile than the mechanical device. We can provide units that lock and remain locked until the applied force decays, units that:

• Lock and remain locked until the applied force decays or
• Lock and immediately bypass to give a restrained rate of displacement

All of our snubbers are supplied with precision rod-end bearings and fixing clevis and they are all individually tested to validate their performance on our dynamic test facility
